Learning Enhancement

and Reinforcement
Class Size: Groups of 4 to 6 participants
Materials Needed: Resource materials to help groups prepare the presentation.
Time required: 20 to 30 minutes – depends upon the topic assigned to each group
Instructions:
There is an old saying that “he who talks most, learns most.” One way to learn about something is to prepare to teach the topic to someone else. This may be a useful activity in your classroom presentation.
Assign each working group (four to six people) a topic to present to the class. Limit the subject matter to a very defined area. Provide each group with adequate information resources on the topic (articles, handouts, booklets, posters, transparencies, pictures, etc.). Give them adequate preparation time and tools. Each workgroup will then present their topics to the entire class.
For example, if presenting information on the topic of fire safety assign one group to each of the following topics:
o How to use an ABC extinguisher
o The proper method for calling a fire drill
o Two safe methods for transporting patients during an evacuation
At the end of the presentations the facilitator can fill in any key information not adequately covered by the group.
If the class lasts more than 1 day it is a good idea to make the assignment on the first day and have the group present on the next day of the class.
